Rehearsing November 2023

Lleisiau Gŵyr (Gower Voices)

  • Contact : Mary Attwell or Maggie Kirk
  • Venue: St Cattwg’s Church, Port Einon
  • Telephone: 07891 463628

Lleisiau Gŵyr (Gower Voices) was established by Maestro Mary Attwell in 2015. Originally started as the Llanddewi with Knelston WI choir, we underwent a name change in 2022 to reflect the wider community membership. In September 2023, Mary stepped aside as Director and Mairwen Kirk took over the role.

We sing a varied repertoire for female voices in two- and three-and even four-part harmony. During ‘term’ time we meet weekly for about 1½ hours, starting with coffee and a warm-up, at the beautiful Port Einon Church of St Cattwg. Choir practice times vary across the seasons, we currently meet from 10.00am to around 11.45am on Thursdays. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. We take an inclusive approach to the choir and we welcome all who enjoy the benefits of singing together and the community spirit it fosters – you don’t have to audition! Please get in touch if you’d like to learn more about joining us.

Reynoldston & District Gardening Club

  • Email: rhossiliannette@sky.com

Reynoldston & District Gardening Club started 42 years ago, in 1981 and Rob Dyer took over as Chair in 2010.  We meet on the second Wednesday of every month usually from September – May each year at 7.30pm in Reynoldston Methodist Chapel.  We welcome all those with a love of plants or an interest in any aspect of horticulture, for talks, plant swaps & sales, monthly raffle and a chat over tea, coffee & biscuits.

We have a varied list of speakers, in 2023/24 for example, we have talks ranging from Bats and Bees to Propagation and Plants with Impact (see the programme here).  Summer visits to local gardens, and sometimes further afield, are a regular feature. There is no need to be an expert or even an active gardener – new members are always assured of a warm welcome and our more expert gardeners are always generous about sharing their knowledge and giving advice.  All for an annual subscription of £10!.  Guests are also welcome to attend if there’s a particular talk of interest, for £5 (to include tea & biscuits).

Rhossili Book Club

  • Contact: Helen Sinclair
  • Email: helen@sculptureculture.co.uk

We started our Book Club in March 2001 with six members and are currently reading our 218 th book. Three of the founding members are still members today. We meet in people’s homes once a month (throughout lockdown we met in the garden of the Village Hall or the church). We read a wide spectrum of books (timetabled for many months ahead) which generate lively and broad discussions. We currently have over a dozen members (which is about the maximum that ‘works’) but do get in touch if you’d like to be on a waiting list.

Rhossili Oil Consortium

  • Contact: Caroline Johnson
  • Tel: 01792 391775
  • Email: rhossiliroc@gmail.com

Rhossili Oil Consortium (ROC) exists for the local community, enabling each of us to benefit from cheaper home heating oil by buying together, and helping preserve our environment by synchronising group deliveries. The area covered is from Scurlage to Rhossili plus a few outliers. Orders are taken every 2 months. Over 50 members place an order only when they need, and also remain free to purchase oil independently whenever they please. ROC’s involvement is to coordinate orders and notify supplier delivery dates: payment is strictly between customer and supplier in accordance with their agreed terms.

Email or phone Caroline to join.

U3A Swansea

Not a Rhossili or local group, but the University of the Third Age (U3A) Swansea serves the whole area and there is some virtual provision. U3A is a nationwide self-help learning organisation network for people who have completed their career or finished raising a family. It means they have the time to enrich their lives with new skills and experiences, pursue their interests, form new friendships and enjoy a sense of belonging to a vibrant community.

The U3A uses a self-help approach so that, rather than paying people to teach (across a range of topics), they encourage members to share their knowledge and talents with other members.
