About Gower Festival

If you like high quality music, then you should certainly check out the Gower Festival. Held during the first fortnight of July annually, there are a dozen events, mostly chamber music, and the venues are those lovely Gower churches which you have seen but perhaps never been inside. The music comes from many genres, from baroque to jazz, and in 2023 the festival includes an art tour and art exhibition as well. Ticket prices are affordable owing to generous sponsorship. Several people consider the Festival valuable enough to donate to, to ensure that it thrives.

It is unique in Britain in holding a different event or concert in a different venue each day. Being close to the performers makes the events an intimate experience, totally different from the remoteness of a typical concert hall. With a high proportion of the small audience being regulars, the intervals are social events with old friendships being renewed and new ones made.

With audience numbers generally falling at similar events, the Festival is building on its reputation for excellence and more than half of the 2022 Festival concerts were sold out. Have a look at the website: www.gowerfestival.org. It will be surprising if you don’t find something to your taste. Be sure to book early because the smaller venues sell out quickly. Subscribers (Friends) are given priority booking.

Gower Local Area Coordinator

About Local Area Coordinators

Swansea County has 23 Local Area Coordinators, each assigned to a specific area. Their role is to help people to find advice and support within their community. Anyone can meet with a LAC and they can help local community groups too, helping them to keep going and grow by introducing more people and supporting them with things like finding opportunities for funding. Local Area Coordinators can also support people set up groups when someone has an idea to start something new.

Swansea Council has produced a short booklet providing information about how the Coordinators function, how to contact and meet your LAC and read a few examples about what they do. Click here to read their helpful guide or click on the image alongside.

We have a 365 day watch system from our station, starting at 10am every day, until 5pm at the moment, soon to be 4pm. Our priority is to try to reduce the numbers being marooned on Worms Head and then to instigate their rescue if that happens. We also log everything at sea that passes our station.
