Some important Q and A’s:

With thanks to Gower Medical Practice

I’m a mum of 2 young preschool children new to the area- Can I speak to a health visitor? How do I meet other mums/dads with small children around Rhossili and find out about local groups?

When you register with the surgery the health visitor is notified of all children under 5 years old and he or she then contacts the family to arrange to meet them. Your health visitor will be able to put you in touch with local play groups and mum/dad and toddler groups.

I’m pregnant and have just moved to the area. What services are run from the local GP surgery for me and my baby when he/she arrives?

Again when a pregnant woman registers with the surgery she will be booked in to see the midwife. She will then see them to make all the arrangement regarding where and how they would like to give birth and provide them with information concerning local antenatal classes. The health visitor then visits all new babies following discharge from hospital and is able to provide information concerning local groups, Swansea based classes and support available to them.

I’m worried about my mental health. I need to talk to someone as I’m feeling very low and anxious. Is there someone at the surgery who might be able to help?

If some one has concerns regarding their mental health they should contact the surgery via AskmyGP [https://my.askmygp.uk/#/intro]. If AskmyGP is closed and it is an emergency we can put their request on for them. If it is outside of surgery hours they should call 111 and select the option for Mental health support. The surgery is able to refer people to appropriate counsellors, department and support appropriate to their age.
