Community ragwort removal with Gower National Trust
July 2, 2025 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Do you care about local livestock? Would you like to make locally grown hay safe for animals to eat in the winter? Then join the folks at Gower NT/YG Gŵyr to remove the ragwort around Rhosili and Pennard this summer!Ragwort is a great plant for pollinators – but needs to be controlled when growing around grazing animals and hay meadows. If eaten over several years, the pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) can build up and cause liver damage. Help us keep our sites safe! And enjoy working with a team from our local community!
Please note:
For the Rhosili day (Wednesday July 2nd) – meet at 9:30 in the Rhosili NT car park.
For the Pennard day (Wednesday July 2nd) – meet at 9:30 in the NT Southgate car park.
If you have thick gardening gloves – please bring them. Also advisable: long sleeves and trousers, sunblock, a hat, a raincoat and refreshments.
The terrain is uneven and we shall be working near a cliff top. Parts of the sites are not very accessible.
Children are welcome if carefully supervised.
Visit the Gower NT website for more information and to “book” to join (there is no fee but it gives them an idea of who is coming).
